Hello there, livejournal. It's been a while. In an amusing sense, I dropped by more out of curiosity to see how long it'd had been - I'm not sure if it's a record length away, but it's got to be close.

In case anyone is reading who doesn't either have me on facebook, twitter, IM or the real world - currently I'm sitting at home in Wollongong, packing up to move back home to Bowral (confusément?) to continue my paediatrics clerkship rotation up there. Last night was at a wedding - the dear Gregory finally got the world's smallest handcuffs - at which I gave a quite well received speech and did some singin' and dancin', and then took a dear friend to another friend's house where we watched Scorcese try to make our minds explode with psychiatrists and Nazis and Leo di Caprio.

All in all, right now is interesting and enjoyable, though tomorrow will be uni and boredom - though Tuesday promises to be on the ward, exciting and fun. Hopefully no more of the kids will have asthma. Hard to say.

The only other real news is that I'm writing a few things at this point, a sci-fi/philosophy novel and a poetry collection. Titled 'elohim' and 'letters to Jessica' respectively. One of them is nearly done, hopefully I can get a copy printed before the honeymooners return.

That's about it for now, LJ. I'll be back, promise. Until then - alcata'riel.

Where you used to be, there is a hole in the world, which I find myself constantly walking around in the daytime, and falling in at night. I miss you like hell. ~Edna St. Vincent Millay

I'm getting a bit better now. At least I can focus again. It's a start. :)

Christmas is a wonderful time of year. For time off, random goings on, and playing with technology. This should be crossposting nicely, at least – and it should be amusing. :)

the once and future ben

So I'm delivering on two promises here. The first is that I'm finally 'life updating' here. The second is another quiz, as I'm sure I must have posted that at some point, that I would return with more snappy answers. Some of these are factual, but eh.

Anyway, check your favourtie cut for your favourite content. :)

Just a quick post here to show you all the poster for the new James Bond film - well, a wallpaper I found of it anyway. Looks kinda entertaining... and they've replaced Daniel Craig. :S

Anyway - poster is here: Poster via photobucket
And a teaser trailer: Trailer via YouTube

Interesting :)

There are three things I would primarily like to note here:

The first is that it is irritating when your car, being only two years new and under 45k of travel, starts exhibiting bad behaviour, specifically with the central locking system. What I mean here is that the system now makes a rather loud buzzing noise whenever I unlock it, either via keys, remote, or internal switches. A very loud buzzing motor noise, emanating from the back of the vehicle. It probably reflects amusingly on me that the first reaction I had was to scour the net for either an electrical manual or a Kia troubleshooting forum (first was $60, second wasn't helpful quickly enough) before actually calling my dealer/mechanic. Was told that the issue is fixable, and isn't going to break anything if I leave it for a bit... so since I'm about 2000km away from a service, which should take me through to the end of September, and having been assured that no damage will result, I'm going to just deal with it I think. At least it'll be a warranty job... still got four years or 150000km to go on that one. :)

The second is that teenagers in Shellharbour, at nine pm on a tuesday. can't be trusted not to steal numberplates. Truth. Although admittedly they didn't seem to get away with anything, being as after Tegan and I had left I sicced the police on them and they called back to tell me that noone was around the area I mentioned and nothing seemed to be wrong... so that's good. Must admit though, having a half a dozen or so 16-19 year olds parked just across from you, when you're in separate cars, and one is wielding a metal bar, is a bit of an adrenalin shock. Next time - park a hell of a lot closer :/

And thirdly, I'm going to draw attention to Brad Caleb Kane's album, This Day In History, which finally came out after several years of waiting (and apparently after going indie, from Warner to Lovelane, and is sadly only 10 tracks long in the end, but of those tracks, easily half are superb with the other five possessing only two that I found to be forgettable, the other three being good but not quite as fantastic as the five best ones. Seriously... when was the last time anyone released an album with 80% great music, and 20% decent but forgettable music? Especially for a first album. Oh, and if you have no idea who Brad Kane is, think the singing voice of Aladdin back in the day. :)

And now, I'm off to catch up on liver metabolism, and vitamins and minerals. Might even see if I can squeeze in the ethical prescribing goal from today... we'll see. :)

....a post!

Ladies and gentlemen, in the interests of disclosure, I thought a post here might be interesting and fun... and why not, as it's been a while since my posts here actually had content :)

Life continues in an interesting vein. As no doubt you are aware, I both graduated undergraduate uni last year (Bachelor of Creative Arts (Creative Writing) and Bachelor of Science (Molecular Biology)), and started graduate uni this year (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) and am now finding the way forward both clearer, harder, and infinitely fun. I'm loving medicine, it is absolutely fantastic... even if I am suffering recurring bouts of paranoia as to the actual amount of learning I'm doing and on my upcoming exam performance, and already feeling stressed therefore... even though said exam(s, if we want to be accurate) aren't scheduled until December. Oh, and my clinical competencies so far - BP measurement, CVSR workup - have both gained me nicely satisfactory marks with my examiners declaring they can tell I'm both competent and comfortable... so at least, in a practical sense, I'm well on the way.

Theory still will be my weakness, I predict. That said, it's amazing how much retention goes on without awareness of the fact. And I'm working out some study patterns that are becoming more effective when I stick to them... so that's good :) And the people I'm studying with are absolutely wonderful, the only detriment is the travel to Nowra 3/4 times a week... although to be honest, the campus at Nowra, with the exception being that it is in Nowra, is infinitely better than Wollongong... the people are nicer, the building is nicer (well, mostly. The lecture theatre is more classroom than lecture theatre, but the chairs are comfier ^^)

Woolies is still Woolies, albeit three times a week for 16 hours, not 5 times a week for 29 hours. Saturdays suck more now, with the alternate being a 7 - 5 shift, instead of 10.30 - 5, but I'm dealing with getting up at 6 on alternate Saturdays. Just feels like another Uni day.

Otherwise, life proceeds most satisfactorily in all aspects other than financials, due to basically working less, hence having less income. Such is life though, ne? And I am rather wrapped up in doing something I'm loving, so yeah. It'll be worth it in the end :)
